Black and White: Group Exhibition
“What is more natural than a passionate interest in juxtaposing black and white, being and non-being, life and death?” Robert Motherwell
Without the distraction of color, black and white art compels viewers to focus on foundational elements of art: composition, contrast, line, form and texture. Black and white art also has a deep connection to emotion. The limited palette can evoke feelings of nostalgia, elegance or stark realism. This exhibition features monochromatic works in a variety of media by Romare Bearden, Oscar Bluemner, Katherine Boxall, Christopher Clamp, Raul Diaz, Wolf Kahn, Ida Kohlmeyer, Thomas McNickle, Robert Motherwell, Robert Peterson, Charles Quest, Manuel Reyna, James Rosati, Brian Rutenberg, Donald Sultan, Tula Telfair and Charles White.
