Philip Mullen : Air & Light
Jerald Melberg Gallery proudly presents a solo exhibition of new paintings by Philip Mullen. Exploring the unique qualities and effects of light and air, Mullen has been described as creating works with both thoughtful technique and carefree fluidity.
Mullen earned a PhD at Ohio University and began teaching at the University of South Carolina in 1969. His work was included in the Whitney Museum’s Biennial of Contemporary Art in 1975. In the years following he was honored with numerous solo gallery exhibitions in New York and Los Angeles, and his work has been exhibited in such illustrious institutions as the Brooklyn Museum, the Smithsonian, the San Francisco Museum of Art, the Walker Art Center, the Greenville Museum of Art, the Columbia Museum of Art, the Gibbes Museum of Art and the Johnson Collection.
The opening reception will be held at the gallery on Friday evening, September 13, with the artist in attendance from 6-8pm. Coffee & Conversation with the artist will be held on Saturday, September 14, at 11am.
